Return to Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Homepage

History:

Jonathan Hutchinson and Hastings Gilford discovered Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria in 1886. They were the first to study the rapid aging that Progeria causes in young children. This disorder had previously been overlooked by many doctors because it is so rare. There has been estimated to be around 100 cases of Progeria since its discovery. This number is just a rough estimate because it does not include the cases that have not been reported.[1]
