Return to Down Syndrome

Treatment

• Physical therapy is so the patients minimize the chance of developing abnormal movement patterns.

• Occupational therapy is administered to help the patient develop motor skills needed at home for everyday survival like eating and playing. It can also assist in developing skills needed for learning.

• Speech therapy is for helping the poeple with Down syndrome to develop his/her speech,(talking and language skills).

Other treatments, surgery and medications. Surgery is done to help in cases of heart complications and muscular problems.  Medications are to treat the disorders such as thyroid dysfunction and seizures which are rare cases.  It is important to monitor closely the health conditions of people with Down syndrome because they are prone to many health complications. Regular check up and visit with the doctor is mandatory. Their predicament requires them to have a specialist close monitor their system as to avoid further development of complications.
