Characteristics of Prader-Willi Syndrome

 

     Someone with PWS will usually display many defining physical and mental characteristics. While not all people with this disorder will show all of these characteristics, they are very common. These defining characteristics include:

 

  • Low muscle tone; weak muscles (hypotonia)
  • Round,almond-shaped eyes
  • Small, upturned nose
  • Small hands and feet
  • Short height and stature
  • Obesity
  • Average IQ of 70, accompanied by learning disabilities
  • Poor social skills
  • Low birth weight
  • Most have "sweet and loving" personalities
  • Inability to control weight
  • Delays in motor development [1]
