What Causes Breast Cancer?

The Genetic Cause of Breast Cancer-

The definite cause of breast cancer is not yet determined by scientists, however, there are certain genetic mutations that are said to increase the risk of breast cancer. There are two genes that scientists have studied the most. BRAC1 and BRAC2 are the names of the two genes which are thought to code for breast cancer.

BRAC1 & BRAC2

The BRAC1 and BRAC2 gene mutations are not caused by something specific. These gene mutations are inherited & they are found within families of the same ethnic background. People who have family members with these gene mutations (BRAC1 and BRAC2) are at a higher risk of inheriting them especially if there has been more than one person in your family history with breast cancer.

Other Causes linked to Breast Cancer-

Obesity is said to be linked to breast cancer. Women who are obese produce more estrogen which causes the development of this cancer. Drinking more than two glasses of alcohol a day is also linked to the development of breast cancer. Radiation to the chest area, such as having an excessive amount of x-rays taken, is another way to greatly increase your risk of having breast cancer. If the radiation started at a younger age, (when the female is developing breasts) the risk of developing breast cancer is much higher.[1]
